Excerpt

The postpartum period starts shortly after delivery, typically lasts 6 to 8 weeks, and concludes when the mother's body has nearly returned to its prepregnant state. The weeks following childbirth are crucial for establishing the long-term health and well-being of both the mother and infant. Implementing a consistent, tailored postpartum care plan is essential, as most maternal and infant deaths occur within the first month. Effective postpartum care is vital to enhance both short-term and long-term health outcomes for the mother and newborn.
