Had dropped the "then" in the loop.
The result of the functions didn't work in the if-then-else loop. Using regular variables does.
We only need to set chmod 1775 on the dir /opt/dnscrypt-proxy, not on all files inside the dir.
Replacing (( )) with [[ ]] to make the comparison work in bash without escaping the >.
Surely, there should be only one /opt in the path?
Hi, I just changed the URL API by utilizing the latest release to speed up checking for updates or retrieve the 'true' latest version of dnscrypt-proxy. And, it will be decrease download size of .json file when checking updates or downloading updates, this will reduce download time, which previously took a long time because dnscrypt-proxy have a lot releases and assets.

Removed sudo inside the script since it's not needed. You can just invoke the script as su user or with sudo. Added that the script is tested on Debian 9 and fixed other minor mistakes.
