Opera Singer. After graduating from the Conservatory of Barcelona, she debuted (1957) in Boheme, Tosca, Aida, Arabella, and Salome. Considered one of the important protagonists of the melodrama, during her career, she performed in prestigious international theaters, including Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, and the Opéra National de Paris. Her greatest performances were "La traviata," "Un ballo in maschera," "La forza del destino." Caballè had a fondness for musicians such as Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, and Wagner. From 1987 to 1888, Caballè partnered with Queen frontman Freddie Mercury to help create a song for the 1992 summer Olympics in Spain. Along with help from another writer, the group created the song "Barcelona." A beautiful operatic ballad that showcased the talent and range of both singers. "Barcelona" would become one of the biggest hits of Mercury's solo career, reaching number eight in the UK singles chart. A year after Mercury's death in 1991, the single was reissued, and the track would climb even higher, peaking at number two in the UK, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. She died after a long illness at the age of 85.
