Bitbucket Data Center 10.5 release notes
29 September 2026
The Bitbucket Data Center 10.5 release is now available for upgrade.
Highlights include:
X509 System Signing
For: ADMINS
Bitbucket DC has long supported signing commits made by Bitbucket (such as pull request merges, in-browser edits, and applied suggestions) using GPG. While individual users could configure commit signing with either GPG or X.509, system-level signing was previously limited to GPG.
You can now use X.509 certificates for system signing. Administrators can upload an X.509 certificate and private key to Bitbucket on the System Signing administration page, ensuring all automated commits made by Bitbucket are securely signed and verified according to your organization's PKI standards.
Fair share throttling of SCM hosting tickets
For: ADMINS
Bitbucket uses a finite pool of "hosting tickets" to bound the number of concurrent Git hosting operations (git clone and fetch) per node, with waiters served strictly first-in, first-out (FIFO) order once the pool is full. Under this scheme a single high-traffic repository can monopolise the queue, parking requests for other repositories behind a huge queue and degrading the experience for every other user on the node.
We’ve introduced fair share scheduling for hosting tickets to help reduce these delays and keep your teams working when your instance is under heavy load. With fair share scheduling enabled, Bitbucket applies a form of automated request prioritisation when the system is busy, helping prevent traffic spikes from one repository from delaying requests for other repositories.
Fair share scheduling is disabled by default. To enable it, add the following to the bitbucket.properties file in your Bitbucket shared home directory, then restart Bitbucket for the change to take effect:
throttle.resource.scm-hosting.scheduler-algorithm=fairshare
Bitbucket DC MCP Server
The MCP for Bitbucket Data Center (BBDC) plugin is a server that allows agents to interact with BBDC using the model context protocol. A set of tools is available to the agents as advertised by the server. By default these capabilities include:
Projects and repositories: list, search, create, and update projects and repositories; fork a repository; list forks.
Branches and tags: list, create, and delete branches and tags; get or set the default branch.
Commits and files: browse commit history, read file contents at a commit, and read or add commit comments.
Pull requests: create, update, merge, decline, reopen, approve, and unapprove pull requests; manage participants and reviewers; read and post comments; check merge eligibility.
File edits: commit a file change directly.
My work: list pull requests assigned to or authored by the current user, and check the inbox count.
The MCP server is also available as a standalone plugin on Atlassian Marketplace for earlier versions of Bitbucket DC.
