Well, I don't know which environment would need that change as it's not explained, but it's clearly broken for GNOME, and I'm running it under Wayland. Both https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/freetube-bin and https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/freetube-git have it lower case, especially the bin one takes it from the .deb too. So we don't know what it's supposed to fix nor if this is still relevant almost one year later.

EDIT: It's also pretty nebulous where stands the logic to build distro packages in upstream repo, but resulting .deb and .rpm packages stands by this logic too (even a weird .pacman file; is this some oddity targeted at ArchLinux? :p

@Porkepix If there's always one that won't have working icons, I'm not sure what I can do on my end :/

Porkepix commented on 2026-09-26 11:27 (UTC)

Application is missing icon in GNOME's alt-tab. This isn't the case for the freetube-bin package, so I tried to compare both. First, the icons aren't placed at the same place (/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/freetube.svg instead of the pixmaps directory here), dunno which one is right but duplicating it there didn't change a thing. And then by looking at old comments I found out https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/freetube?O=10#comment-1043579 where one requested to change .desktop file's casing. Turns out reverting to lower case fixes the icon in GNOME's alt-tab context. Dunno if that's the way to fix it or if it should be handled differently, but getting the icon fixed would be nice!

Electron 41 is in [extra] now!

duht commented on 2026-04-03 12:31 (UTC)

@coderkun maybe it's due to laziness/lack of time/ lack of maintaners, all electrons in the arch repo are very outdated. (i.e. newest electron39=v39.8.6, in arch repo=v39.5.2)

coderkun commented on 2026-04-03 08:23 (UTC)

Does anyone know why both Electron 40 and 41 are not in the official repos? Version 41 was released only three weeks ago but version 40 was released in January. Just wondering whether we can expect the new versions to be included in the official repos or if anything prevents the inclusion.

picokan commented on 2026-04-02 21:26 (UTC)

@duht Because Freetube 0.24 is using electron41. It's a little annoying if you use makepkg, but I want to stick to what upstream uses.

duht commented on 2026-04-02 15:33 (UTC)

@picokan currently, arch repositories do not have electron41 package, so why not set dependencies on electron39 until then?

lightdot commented on 2026-03-12 18:17 (UTC)

I'm currently pointing the build to electron 39 and it seems to work, for the limited set of Freetube functions that I use. Consider it as an untested approach.

Is there a workaround with this? The older version is giving me problems with videos playback and loading. I tried updating and pointing to electron34, and I am now starting to issues where the video won't playback.
